People, like the world around them, are never fully represented by just one of anything, especially a personality color. There are personality tests that will tell you that you are a blue, a gold, a green etc., but human beings blend characteristics, traits and strengths depending on their life and emotional contexts, so Primary Colors Personality tests help you discover your three/four color combination of six different color personality tendencies that you use to paint your world in different life and emotional contexts. Adding colors into beautiful blends is how nature works. It is how God created the world.
We find color blends in ALL of nature. There are color blends in the skies above us. We find beautiful color blends in our gardens, deserts, mountains and seasons. We find color blends in the sea. We find color blends on insects, reptiles, and rainbows. We find color blends in the color of our skin. We find color blends in the foods we eat. We even find amazing color blends in the work of artists and things as simple as soap bubbles. And we of course find amazing color blends in the personalities of human beings. Some of us are similar color personalties. But many of those we love are very different color blends from us.
The goal in using the Primary Colors Personality Insight Tool is to gain self-awareness. To become aware of who we are choosing to be in any given moment, in any given context, and how those choices are working for us. Having others take the test describing us, or us describing them, is a wonderful way to open up conversations that can be tremendously helpful, bonding and healing. The better we understand those around us, and they understand us, the more connected, happy and alive we feel.
A person’s color blends can tell us with startling accuracy, how someone will respond to circumstances, situations, challenges and stressors in their lives.
According to Dawn Billings, the author and architect of the Primary Colors Relationship Personality Tests and Insight Tools, "Understanding your personal color sequence and the intensity of each of your colors in a given context, helps you understand how you perceive the world around you, and enables you to predict with some accuracy how those perceptions will most likely impact your choices, attitudes and behaviors."
As a rule, we perceive, function, make choices, and act out of the personality tendencies that are a blend of our top three colors. When we examine others’ behavior and perceptions through the looking glass of a blend of their top three personality colors, we begin to see how consistently we can predict how they, and others, will most likely respond or behave in any given circumstance or context.
Our primary color in any given context is usually established at an early age and is our default setting. It is our motivating force. Our secondary colors help create balance, sound decision making, and more accurate information gathering. They also balance the pace at which we choose to get things done.
Then there is our lowest number color. The Primary Colors Personality Test also shows you your least dominate color which tells you a great deal about the people and ideas you will struggle most to understand, communicate with, work closely with, parent or love. This is the personality color that we catch ourselves saying, “I don’t get them!”, “What in heaven’s name is wrong with them?” It makes sense that our lowest personality color tendencies represents our least developed areas of understanding and therefore, tends to cause us frustration and stress.
Solomon tells us, “With all thy getting, get understanding.” In order to learn to understand others it is imperative that we first gain insight and understanding of ourselves. This is called personal awareness, or personal insight, and it is one of the most critical necessities in developing emotional and relational intelligence. It is our level of emotional intelligence that impacts our relationships most dramatically. The more emotionally intelligent we are, the better we are equipped to relate successfully with another human being.
So by understanding your color blends in different contexts of your life and understanding your partner's color blends in different contexts in their lives you develop more empathy for the way they perceive their world.
